Borrowing and Reserving
Please order available media through the internal delivery service to the departmental library of your choice. If a title that you want is currently checked out, you can reserve it in most cases.
Ordering Literature or Media
You can use the internal delivery service to order available media from the departmental libraries and the University Library stacks to be delivered to the departmental library of your choice, free of charge.
What can you order?
- holdings from the University Library stacks (It is not possible to book a reservation at the actual location of the media. Please take these media out of the shelf yourself.)
- lendable holdings from the departmental libraries
A few items cannot be ordered via the online catalogue. In such cases, please contact the information desk of one of our departmental libraries.
What can you not order?
- materials from textbook collections at the departmental libraries
- media from the non-lending collection (including journals) at the departmental libraries
- valuable or historical holdings of the University Library
Our Information Desk will be happy to provide assistance regarding various options of use.
How can you submit an order?
Submit an order in the Online Catalogue:
- Choose the option "Order".
- Log in to your user account.
- Select the place where you want to pick up the materials.
- Complete the ordering process by clicking on the "Order/Reserve" button on the right side.The following screen will show you whether the ordering process was successfully completed.
Where can you check the processing status of your orders?
All orders are shown in the user account tab "Items Loaned Out". Notes regarding the status of your order(s):
- "Bestellt/Ordered" - The order is not being processed yet.
- "Die Bestellung ist noch unterwegs/Order on its way" - The order is being processed.
- "Die Bestellung ist zur Abholung bereit/Order ready for pick-up" - The order can be picked up.
- "Bereitgestellt zur Nutzung im Haus"- The ordered media is provided for use inside the library only.
- "Nicht verfügbar. Das Medium wird zurzeit vermisst." - Unfortunately we cannot place this volume at your disposal at the current time. The search for the item is ongoing.
What are the delivery deadlines?
- Orders from branch libraries and the stacks to another location are usually completed within 48 hours at the latest.
- Stack holdings at the location in the Golm and Babelsberg/Griebnitzsee libraries (if ordered at least one hour in advance) are available: Mon - Fri: 9:00, 12:00 and 15:00.
- Please note that reference holdings can only be viewed within the building.
How long are materials held for pick-up?
Orders are usually held for 7 days at the circulation desk of the pick-up location you specified.
Reserving Literature or Materials
If a title that you want is currently checked out, you can reserve it in most cases.
What can you reserve? | holdings from the University Library departmental libraries and stacks that are currently on loan to another user |
What can you not reserve? | reference holdings (including journals) materials from textbook collections at the departmental libraries

How do you make a reservation? | Submit a reservation in the Online Catalogue:

Where can I see my reservations? | All reservations are shown in the user account tab "Reservations". If you no longer need a reserved title, please delete your reservation.

When can you pick up reserved media/literature? | Reservations are taken into account right away when the media are returned. (We cannot guarantee that the item will be returned on time.) If a reservation is ready for you to pick up, you can see this in your user account under the "Items Loaned out" tab. We will also send you an email indicating that the reserved item is ready for pick-up at the location you have specified.
