Reference Management Courses

Reference management programs help you to record and process sources electronically. They import references directly from catalogues and databases and automatically create formatted bibliographies.

Citavi: The University of Potsdam has purchased a campus licence for Citavi. Here you will find the campus licence, which allows all members with a valid UP email address to use Citavi free of charge for individual projects and the joint management of literature in working groups. A brief introduction can be found here. Citavi can only be used on Windows computers; for all other operating systems, Citavi Web can be used. We offer courses for both versions.

Zotero: Zotero is available as open source and is free of charge up to a certain storage volume. The programme is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux.

The following questions will be discussed in this course:

    •     How do I manage my bibliographical references while writing a long research paper?
    •     Which functionalities do the reference management softwares offer?
    •     How do I cite properly and avoid plagiarism?
    •     Which general and university-specific principles have to be observed?
