The library is open, for further details, see Opening and Service Hours.
Open shelf collection:
Access to the open shelf collection (e.g. for searching for media, short research in the reference holdings, copying and scanning...) is possible without prior registration.
The so-called "3G rule" (tested, vaccinated, recovered) applies to the access to the open shelf collection. Please provide appropriate proof at the entrance.
Please check the availability of workstations beforehand. There is no entitlement to a workstation or seat. Please continue to use the workstation booking tool.
Workstations and carrels:
Work and reading stations are currently available primarily to university members. External users may currently book workstations at the Golm and Neues Palais libraries, the number is however limited. Thank you for your understanding.
The so-called "3G rule" (tested, vaccinated, recovered) applies to the use of workstations. Please provide appropriate proof at the entrance.
Carrels may be used at all library locations. Group study rooms are currently not (yet) available.
Borrowing and ordering media:
You have to be a registered user to order and borrow items. Registration and renewal of library cards is possible during opening hours.
No 3G proof is required for media return and pickup of ordered items, as well as for copying and scanning.
Information service on site is unfortunately not available at the moment.
Please use our online formto ask your questions or to make an appointment for an individual consultation.
Pick-up of ordered items:
Non-lending collection and journals
Items from the non-lending collection and journals cannot be borrowed.
Scanning and copying
Scanners and copiers are accessible. The printer/copier in the IKMZ Golm in the outer foyer is accessible during the opening hours.
For students, ZIM offers printing, copying and scanning facilities at each location.
Please understand that we can only admit a limited number of persons at a time. There will be an admission control, please plan for waiting times (currently 5 to 15 minutes). Please wear a medical mouth and nose protection while in the library.
Please extend the loan periods yourself - or return the items on time. Up to 5 renewals are possible (unless the item has been reserved).
You can return media in all our three departmental libraries - regardless of the location you originally borrowed them from.
Please use the contactless return service at the self check-out counters at all three locations (in Golm the return machines are loacted in the foyer).
In case you cannot return items on time, please get in touch with us on time. If the item is overdue, late fees will apply.
Fees up to 50 euros can be paid cashless at the pay machines with the PUCK (chip card for students) or Girocard (former EC card). In Babelsberg/Griebnitzsee and Golm you will find the pay machines inside the departmental libraries, at Neues Palais in building 8 (in front of the ZIM secretary's office, entrance on the right next to the cafeteria).
Payment of fees by bank transfer is also possible. Please be aware of the longer processing time for bank transfers. Your user account will be credited only after the University Library has received the money. Please provide the following information on the transfer form:
