Funding Criteria and General Conditions

Funding Criteria

Both the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the University of Potsdam impose the following criteria for funding articles from the publication fund:

  • Applicants must be members of the University of Potsdam at the time of application and must contribute to the article either as "submitting author" or as "corresponding author".
  • The selected journal will publish all articles immediately open access after publication. Furthermore, the journal meets the scientific quality criteria valid for the respective discipline. Excluded from funding are open access options for single articles in journals that are subject to subscription.
  • The cost per article may not exceed € 2,000 (incl. VAT). Partial financing is currently not possible.
  • The article funded appears in the current funding year.

General Conditions

  • The order of funding is determined by the submission date of the application until 75% of the publication fund has been expended - provided that the publication has already been accepted by the publisher.
  • If 75% of the publication fund is expended, young researchers (doctoral candidates, postdocs) will be given priority.
  • Applicants must not be able to pay the publication costs from third-party funds intended for this purpose.
  • Journals of funded articles must be listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
  • If articles are published in journals by commercial publishers, the respective publisher must hold membership in the Open Access Scholarly Publisher Association (OASPA).
  • Funded articles should be published under a Creative Commons license or a similar open license.
