The University Library in Potsdam has been performing retroactive digitization since 2011. This has led to the digitization of historical holdings in the University Library as well as the collections of our partners in Brandenburg. These digital holdings can then be offered free of charge to library patrons.

The main priorities in our digitization efforts have been Brandenburg-related items, Judaica and geological materials, such as geological maps of Brandenburg. Together with the Bundeswehr Center for Military History and Social Sciences (Zentrum für Militärgeschichte und Sozialwissenschaften der Bundeswehr, or ZMSBw), a joint project has been implemented to add ZMSBw holdings to the Europeana Collection 1914-1918. The journal Otis, from the Berlin-Brandenburg Ornithologists’ Working Group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Berlin-Brandenburgischer Ornithologen, or ABBO), is also on offer. Recently, more than 50 volumes of the Fontane Blätter have been digitized and made available online.

The Multifunctional Digitization Platform project at the University Library in Potsdam was funded by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD). Visual Library, software from the Semantics software company, is being used for portal software.
